My Thoughts

I haven’t read the first Boomerville book, but I didn’t miss anything. This book can be read alone and if you’d like more background on the main characters, you can always pick up the first one later.

The blurb did lead me to believe that a lot happens in the new Boomerville retreat, but I wasn’t prepared for just how much action is packed into the pages. There’s something for everyone in this story.

There’s a dark undertone in the form of an abusive husband and an attempted murder. There are some pretty funny moments with the Boomerville Babes, a sort of water acrobatics team comprised of middle-aged ladies. Love is also in the air, involving both humans and animals.

Boomerville at Ballymegille is a complete package and you get a sense of having lived through a great adventure. The story is open-ended with Hattie setting off to a new place, perhaps to a new adventure.

The author has managed to give each character enough time to tell their story without rushing things. You also get treated to lovely descriptions of food, buildings, and natural scenery.

I had a few enjoyable evenings reading this story about friendship, kindness, love, and the many failings of human nature.

(I received a review copy from Rachel’s Random Resources in exchange for an honest review.)

Synopsis

Boomerville is back!

Join Hattie and Jo as they head to Southern Ireland to open Boomerville Manor, a holiday retreat for guests of ‘a certain age’. There’s Irish craic and shenanigans aplenty for the colourful cast of characters as everyone gathers for the grand opening.

Meet Melissa, an ex-cabaret singer running from her abusive husband, and Bill, a bachelor bullied from beyond the grave by the ghostly voice of his mother. Along with local bobby Harry the Helmet, ageing aquatic team the Boomerville Babes, eccentric artist Lucinda Gray, and heartthrob Finbar Murphy, they gather in Ireland and the fun begins. But murder is in the air and there’s mischief afoot. Will the residents get more than they bargained for at Boomerville?

Set in the beautiful Irish countryside, ‘Boomerville at Ballymegille’ is a heart-warming story of friendship, fears and new beginnings.
