Elphie Meets the End of the World is a picture book that focuses on fake news and living each moment to the fullest.
I found this an interesting topic for a children’s book because I don’t think children have a proper understanding of what is misinformation. Nevertheless, they are gullible so I think this is a good starting point to teach them to analyze what they hear from others before believing it.
Also, I liked the way the parents helped their child deal with bad news instead of snubbing him.
I felt the illustrations could be better–less busy, brighter, and with bolder lines perhaps.
The prose is perfect–I can imagine how a child would read (or be read to) and thoroughly enjoy the story.
(I received a review copy from Book Sirens in exchange for an honest review.)
When Elphie overhears an older boy talking about the end of the world, he runs home to find a better place to hide. Luckily, Mom and Dad are there and the three of them manage to deal with the dreadful news…This book isn’t about COVID19.
