My Thoughts

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Dr. Manisha Yadava is an inspirational figure, not only through her writing but also through her life struggles. She did not give up her dream to be a published poetess despite the various hurdles she faced.

This collection of poems is a pleasure to read for its rich thought, beautiful word choice, and lyrical sentence quality. Dr. Yadava tackles a wide variety of themes–women’s empowerment, homosexuality, communal harmony, terrorism, social media, different shades of love, myriad thoughts on life, and ends with an evergreen topic–Holi.

My favorite poems are Mombattiyan, which is a satire on the hypocrisy of people who hold candle marches in memory of women who died due to sexual violence, Khuda Ka Khauf, where a murderer is berated for killing an innocent child, Pita Roopi Sasur, which is a tender ode to a loving father-in-law, and Mera Facebook Wala Pyaar, which is a humorous take on finding love on social media.

Her poems are grounded in reality and this will allow readers to easily relate to her verses. This book can be a great accompaniment to an evening of refreshment and conversation.
